Race packets may be picked up Thursday, May 10 and Friday, May 11 from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. at Omega Sports located at 4271 Park Road.  You can also register at Omega Sports on Park Road to run the race on Saturday, May 12, if you haven’t registered.

Online registration closes Thursday, May 10 at midnight.  Race registrants may also pick up their race packets the morning of the race, Saturday, May 12 at the race site …The Park-Huntersville.

Third Annual Girls on the Run Excellence Awards!

Presented by the Dowd Foundation 

The Girls on the Run Excellence Awards is an opportunity for the Girls on the Run staff to recognize our many coaches volunteers, board member and program sites for their efforts.  The event includes three contests 1) Coach of the Year, 2) Volunteer of the Year & 3) Site of the Year.

We are asking our Fall 2011 & Spring 2012 participants (families & supporters) to help us recognize the individuals who help to make Girls on the Run of Charlotte great.  Please consider nominating your coach or favorite GOTR volunteer!

WHAT DO THEY WIN!:
The Coach of the Year & Volunteer of the Year will both receive a plaque, a $250 cash prize and will be recognized at our Excellence Award held in early May.  We will also invite the person who nominated our winners to attend
the event!

Participants from the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 seasons are eligible to apply. Secret will award $500 to ten (10) girls and  $3,500 to the corresponding ten (10) Councils where the winning girls  participate. Winners will be selected from two grade categories: 3rd –5th grade (6 winners) and 6th – 8th grade (4 winners).

• Entries must be postmarked by April 30, 2012, on
  an Official Entry Form or plain piece of 8-1/2″ x 11″ paper.
• All entries must be signed by a parent or legal  guardian.
• Essays must be 300 words or fewer and handwritten. Typed entries will not be judged unless a documented disability exists which prohibits writing by hand.
• Essays will be judged on the following criteria:
  • Originality & Creativity (40%)
  • Inspirational Value of Essay (25%)
  • Appropriateness of Essay to Theme (35%)

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Girls on the Run 5k will be moved from
May 5^th to May 12^th .  Girls on the Run thoroughly
reviewed alternative locations around Cabarrus & Mecklenburg Counties,
ultimately deciding to remain at the Huntersville Business Park and host the
event one week later than originally planned. This location provides ample
parking, wide streets, spacious facilities and easy access to and from the
event.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but hope that you will
still plan to join us for a fabulous, family-friendly event.  We look
forward to seeing you and your family on Saturday, May 12.

On Tuesday, February 28, 2012, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will officially announce a new partnership established between the CMPD and the Girls on the Run organization. Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, experiential learning program for girls ages eight to thirteen years old. The goals of the program are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.

The two organizations will be working side by side to assist elementary and middle school aged girls and provide life lessons that are aimed to assist them in their decision making in the future.  Coaches with the CMPD will include officers, civilian employees, and volunteers.

Girls on the Run of Charlotte is pleased to announce Lisa Keller’s promotion from Girls on the Run of Charlotte’s Program Coordinator to Girls on the Run International’s Professional Development Manager.  Lisa’s skills in volunteer management, event coordination and attention to detail are remarkable.  She has served Girls on the Run of Charlotte as a volunteer coach, board member, sole mate, staff member and supporter.  She will be missed as an employee of Girls on the Run of Charlotte but will continue to serve our organization and remain in our office building. 

We are also pleased to announce that Susan Gray will be joining the Girls on the Run of Charlotte Staff as our Volunteer Coordinator.  Susan has been working with Girls on the Run International for the last two years.  As a native of Charlotte, Susan brings a wealth of community knowledge to our organization as well as years of experience in customer service, training and GOTR council development.
